Your work deserves to be seen clearly.

I help environmental organizations, conservation nonprofits, and mission-driven businesses close the gap between the quality of their work and how they appear to the world.

Most brand problems aren't aesthetic problems.

They're clarity problems.

You've built something real — a mission worth believing in, a track record that speaks for itself. But the website says the right words in the wrong order. The visual identity doesn't hold the weight of what you actually do. Funders, partners, and prospective clients land on the page and can't quite see it.

That gap costs you. Not dramatically, not all at once — but steadily. In the trust that doesn't form fast enough. In the opportunities that go to organizations that simply look more credible on first contact.

The problem isn't that you haven't found the right designer. It's that the work underneath hasn't been surfaced yet.

Strategy before aesthetics. Always.

Every engagement begins with a paid Brand & Web Audit — a deep look at who you are, who you're trying to reach, and what your current presence is actually communicating. Not a free consultation. A real piece of work that surfaces the foundation everything else is built on.

From there, we build only what the strategy calls for. Identity, web design, messaging, and ongoing stewardship — in service of clarity, not decoration.

Work that holds weight.

Non-profit website rebuild for clarity and conversion.

The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation supports one of the most visited national parks in the country. Their website wasn't keeping pace. We rebuilt it from the ground up — architecture, content, and design — so the organization's credibility finally came through on first contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is brand strategy?

Brand strategy is the thinking that happens before any design decisions are made. It's the work of understanding what an organization stands for, who it's for, and what it needs to communicate — then using those answers to guide everything from visual identity to messaging to web design. Without strategy, design is decoration. With it, design does real work. It also informs every downstream decision: brand identity design, logo design, web design, and creative direction all become cleaner and more effective when strategy comes first.

What is a fractional creative director?

A fractional creative director is a senior creative leader who works with your organization on a part-time or contract basis. Instead of a full-time hire at a six-figure salary, you get the same strategic leadership, brand oversight, and creative direction — on a scope and schedule that fits your needs and budget.

Who is this work for?

Organizations that have something real to offer the world and need a brand presence that reflects it. That includes independent businesses, nonprofits, conservation organizations, farms and food producers, community-rooted nonprofits, and growth-stage companies. The through-line isn't an industry — it's that the work matters to the people doing it, and the brand hasn't caught up to the quality of what they do.

What does a typical engagement look like?

Every engagement starts with a Discovery Session — a structured strategic conversation that surfaces your vision, mission, values, and audience. From there, the scope is defined by what your brand actually needs. You get everything necessary and nothing superfluous. Some engagements produce a complete brand identity and website. Others begin with a creative audit and evolve into ongoing creative direction. The strategy determines the path.

Where are you based, and do you work remotely?

'm based in Gainesville, Florida, and work with clients throughout the US. Most engagements are fully remote. In-person strategy sessions are available for clients in North Florida.

What's the difference between working with Clay Creative and hiring an agency?

An agency delivers outputs. A strategist and creative director provides thinking and leadership. I work alongside your team, make decisions, set direction, and take ownership of outcomes — the way a senior in-house creative leader would. I also work with your existing vendors and agencies to get more out of what you're already spending.
